Well, even though I am pretty sure no one is reading this, or maybe because I am, I am going to try writing down some thoughts. Today's thoughts are on global warming, probably because I have been feeling pretty cold on our morning walks. I am happy to get a little local warming - if no one else wants theirs, I am not unhappy with mine. And I am tired of people trying to scare me to death about the next climate change catastrophe. Of course, the recent revision of US temperature data that dropped several of the recent years from the list of the century's hottest didn't get much traction in the news. And that is the pattern - hype the scare, ignore the retraction or revision that diminishes the scare. Katrina was the harbinger of the end of the world as we know it and for two years since we have had predictions of apocalyptic hurricane seasons - which have failed to materialize. But we don't hear about that, just the prediction for a lot of activity at the beginning of the season. Now, I don't know how much of the recent warming is due to CO2 stuff, but neither do I think anyone else does. Even so, I am all in favor of reducing CO2 emissions - after all, I have been riding my bike to school and work for over 30 years for a reason. Still, freedom is a more important value to me than preventing possible global warming and I am unwilling to impose my environmental morality on others to that degree. I might change my mind if I really had confidence that any mechanism currently available to us (other than returning to the pre-industrial age) would a) reduce atmospheric CO2 and b) significantly affect global climate. Basically, my response is, "come back when you know more about it."

Haha, I enjoyed reading that. I always said bring on the global warming when I was living in Iowa but now that I'm here I'm not so sure about that. As far as the CO2emissions I might have agreed with you before I tried to get my car registered here and it repeatedly failed the tests. :) I definitely agree there is way too much hype, what is the world coming to when Al Gore whens the Nobel Peace Prize???

I have to agree with the assesment. When people try to tell me that we, as humans, are so smart that we have determined that global warming caused by human CO2 emissions is not longer debatable. What a load of crap! It may be just as true as the MSM wants you to believe however to say we cannot debate it anymore just makes me think liar. It is fashionable now however i am all for it if it will mobilize alternative modes of transport (even bike, however your heavy breathing while riding has released copious amounts of CO2) and innovation that leads to oil independence.
