Mr. Gingrich gave an interesting speech last month. http://jerrypournelle.com/mail/mail496.html#Newt

I don't know how correct he is. But I think he is pretty close. What should be done is another matter, but ignoring the problem or failing to be clear about it is dangerous at best.

A follow up on the last post. Mr. Romney obviously did not settle the matter with his speech. If anything he stirred it up. He has been attacked several times since for not repudiating a racist, sexist religion founded by a criminal, fornicating rapist. This will be an interesting year. I think it will be easy to get angry and be offended. But that won't be productive. What will be productive, I think, is to get ready to answer the obvious questions, about racism, polygamy, Joseph Smith, etc. It is a strange world.

The Gingrich talk was interesting. He seemed to imply that the right approach is a more covert operation. I think there are certainly things that the government could do without telling us. However with the size and span of the government it makes me nervous to give them permission to do anything. I think it is time to slim down the government, cut the fat (most government officials). Something painful needs to happen to induce change there is a epidemic of apathy within the U.S. population.
